Connie D. Phelps, Partner at Berenzweig Leonard, advises clients on a wide range of corporate transactions, with a particular focus on mergers and acquisitions, private placements, corporate restructurings and strategic alliances. She also advises Boards in connection with transactions, corporate governance and related matters.
Connie brings a business-minded perspective to the corporate practice, after founding a successful consulting business providing IT services to federal government agencies and large and mid-sized commercial clients in the southeastern United States. This powerful combination–a seasoned attorney with hands-on business experience and technical knowledge as a software developer–allows her to provide valuable insight and advice to clients, including those in the technology space.
Prior to joining Berenzweig Leonard, Connie practiced at the prestigious law firm WilmerHale in its corporate practice in Washington, DC. She advised domestic and international clients on corporate transactions, including mergers and acquisitions and public and private financing, and she counseled clients on federal securities laws and corporate governance matters. Her clients included public and private companies in a variety of industries, including technology and financial services. She also was recognized for her significant pro bono service.
Connie earned her law degree magna cum laude from Duke Law School, where she served as Editor in Chief of the Law and Contemporary Problems journal, and was elected to the Order of the Coif. She clerked for The Honorable James B. Loken on the United States Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit.
